But seriously, why do women do this? Why the mixed signal business? Why the weird girl-type reason KH talked about? I mentioned this to my female bestfriend (the evil one who's ruining my life) and she said that she does this to guys too but doesn't mean to.

Let me tell you about how I hooked up with my wife.

We'd been shamelessly flirting for a couple of weeks. I had just recently stopped having sex with my psycho ***** ex girlfriend (she was much more tolerable when I didn't have to even make the pretense of liking anything about her, but even that started to grow old) so I was horny as hell.

Unbeknownst to me, my wife was still dating her boyfriend. She suggests we meet up at this big dance party thing at a club, so I swallow my objections against dancing and show up. I find her there with a couple of her drunk-ass friends around. I try to dance with her, but she totally rejects my advances. Meanwhile, one of the aforementioned friends keeps groping me and grinding up against my junk. I manage to get my wife alone outside for a few seconds and I ask her why she didn't want to dance with me. She says "my boyfriend would kill me". Needless to say, I'm pissed. I'm convinced that I was brought there as a set-up with the friend who was humping my leg.

When I see her again I act polite but quite restrained. Within a week, she has:

Deliberately talked loudly to her friends in front of me about wanting to break up with her boyriend

Begun to snuggle up against me at every opportunity

Invited herself over to my house, bringing a bottle of Jack Daniels with her

They like attention, especially from guys, and there is one sure fire way to get a guy to show you attention.

Of course, it's entirely possible that the result of KH's (good) advice is that you never hang out with this girl again. You have to be prepared for that possibility.

There was a girl in college that was shamelessly flirting with me for a while. The thing was, she was flirting with pretty much everyone, including a friend of mine who was far better looking that I am. It became clear that he was her real target (to the extent she had a real target at all).

I went with the undiplomatic option and just flat-out told her off - something like "don't pretend you want me if you don't. I'm not going to play games here." I kind of had to do it that way, because avoiding her would've been annoying (she was hanging out at my fraternity house).

She hooked up with the other guy... though nothing much came of it. I never talked to her again. It happens. She was ****ing hot, but was just messing with my head. I was better off not letting myself be teased.

Not all women do - in the same way as not all men beat women. Those that play games I've never bothered with. If they're not interested in me I'm not interested in them. I prefer the ones that are open and honest - either in response to my moves on them, or in their moves to me.

This can work two ways.

1. They find you fascinating because you don't do all the cliched stuff that the other guys do.

2. They think you're gay.
