I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

First Ladies have always had considerable power, with some, such a Mrs. Wilson, acting as virtual President during the President's illness. Mrs Clinton was hardly outside the norm. Nancy Reagan was no wallflower herself, controlling access to the President.
The virulent hatred of Mrs. Clinton stems from two sources. First ad foremost, she is the wife of Bill Clinton. The right wing absolutely hated the guy, and anything connected to him.
But a big part of it is she is an unapologetically powerful woman. She doesn't defer to men in the least little bit. Even Mrs. Pelosi and other women leaders in the U.S. make small deferences to patriarchy. Mrs. Clinton does not. Nor can she be shunted into the category of old crones, who are allowed to act like men without deferring to them, like Mrs. Albright.
One gets the sense from Mrs. Clinton that she doesn't need Mr. Clinton or any other man. She has him because she wants him, or at least because having him fits into her plans. Many men and many women too are frightened and disturbed by such women.
I know a lot of folks say that it's merely Mrs. Clinton's politics, but they don't heap such hatred and contempt on her male peers who do share her views.Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

What's your evidence for all that, Che? I don't deny that she's a mighty woman, hear her roar, etc., but do you have any cause to believe that's why she's hated, or is it all speculative?

I've considered naming myself Semicolon. Would that be a good move?DISCLAIMER: the author of the above written texts does not warrant or assume any legal liability or responsibility for any offence and insult; disrespect, arrogance and related forms of demeaning behaviour; discrimination based on race, gender, age, income class, body mass, living area, political voting-record, football fan-ship and musical preference; insensitivity towards material, emotional or spiritual distress; and attempted emotional or financial black-mailing, skirt-chasing or death-threats perceived by the reader of the said written texts.

Yes, because it's not true. It is true that I use it with great stylistic license when writing informally, because I don't have a sequoia-size stick up my ass. But that's just me.Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.

Why do we need to keep psychoanalyzing petty male insecurities like this?
Is it really so hard to believe that many people (whether right or left wing) simply find her phony, plastic manner grating on a personal level?

Apparently, though, your drunken mother was too busy servicing sailors to work on reading comprehension with you.
