Torchwood, the British made Dr. Who spin off premiered on Australian TV last night. I thought it was BRILLIANT!

After being disappointed time and time again by the endless stream of American made shows, most recently Heroes, (which lost me within the first few minutes), Torchwood had me instantly hooked.

The premise is something like Men in Black - Captain Jack Harkness heads a covert organisation protecting Earth against alien pests.

The show has good special effects, an interesting premise, great dialogue, and cool characters who behave in a believable and consistent manner even though they are presented with extraordinary events.

BBC America is supposed to be broadcasting it some time in the future. I don't know if BBC America is a cable station or free to air though.

I see we have two of the biggest American tits imaginable in this thread. You`re a real discredit to your nation...

I'm glad you like it Bkeela, that's my hometown there - I used to live in the big white building that Jack stands on the top of...

I hope you're not too disappointed with the rest of the series, it's a great idea but some of the story lines leave a lot to be desired - variously, plot holes you can drive a bus through, stupid stories, the characters being stupid to the point of utter thickness etc...

Anyway, it's slated for a 2nd series so I hope the makers have taken on board all the criticism and improve it accordingly - I like seeing Cardiff allowed to be Cardiff, as opposed to providing all the non-famous bits of London as backdrops of Dr Who.

I thought it was utter, unadulterated crap. Dr Who is great, though.
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

It was amusing for a bit, but then the rampant oversexedness of the series wore thin.

Like, by the end of the second episode. It's not as good as Doctor Who, but it's a somewhat passable timewaster...

Oh, and Cardiff sucks. (I don't really have a strong opinion on Cardiff, I just felt like saying that.)

Oh yes, the 'look at us all being rampantly deviant with every character in the series with numerous man on man tonsilympics'...

IIRC one of the episodes involved a sex demon ******** to death all the men she can get her hands on for their lifeforce...

Dr Who started a bit weakly this season (3) but has got a lot better - but if I see another Dalek episode (haven't they ALL been killed yet for the dozenth time!?!?!?!?!?)...

Though the last ep saw the return of another old enemy at the end - but frankly I think they've gone and cocked him up!

To be fair, Captain Jack Harkness is pretty hot...

But there's only so much of the tonsilympics one can take before it just seems...

                          ...well, dull.
