Sorry EoN, I want to throw this link in for everyone's enjoyment.

Aeson's response to you still stands out in my mind as one of the best posts on Apolyton

That was pre-slavery original Civ4 when I was still trying to find a way to expand fast. I challenge anyone on here to a 1v1 mirror map duel. There's an obvious trend with Civ4: Average players and beginners think it's awesome. They have no experience playing competitively. Players that were upper level in previous civ games think it's a piece of ****. It's pretty obvious why this is when you see what the game does to people who try to get ahead. Every newbie I have talked to loves the system and says "It's unfair if beginning players don't have a chance." What the **** is that?

Still can't get over not being as good as you were in Civ2?

Heh, I'd still like to see how beginner players stand a chance... they do, when playing against other beginners. I surely wouldn't.

            Solver (09:52 AM) :
I don't play MP. And I have no impression that I would stand a chance, the only people I could beat in MP are those who are new to Civ.

            Then shut the **** up

Refer back to my post about SP players telling me I don't understand the game and then revealing they don't even play MP. I rest my case.

Revealing, my ass. Never said I play MP. How very nice of you to think that only MP players can understand the game

How can you understand the game playing against an AI? You have to be a total idiot to lose again an AI. The real players play MP, it's always been that way. SP isn't even remotely like MP.

Yes, SP isn't even remotely like MP. Glad we agree on something

I am a dedicated player, I love the game and find myself immersed in playing PBEM, I dont have time for MP games, I do however love the game and am certainly not an idiot because I am not the top ranked player in the world, I am not an idiot because I dont play MP and am not an idiot because the ai beats me.

I have been spanked left and right in games and thoroughly enjoy the commradrie between players.

Not everything can be measured in wins and losses, sometimes the experience of sharing a good time between players is enough to sustain some of us.

I am just sharing, I understand you need front and center stage, I applaud you for being El Torro

I would also say the game was meant for many levels of play and many diverse styles.

That's the problem, there aren't many levels of play. With slaving, there's decent, and a little better. The players that are a little better know how to slave units faster, that's about all that separates people. If you remove slaving, the difference between players becomes almost non-existent. The maintinence system, the tech system, and the horrible combat system make for an incredibly simple game that leaves little ability to go outside the normal play or to gain even remotely significant leads.

Seriously, why isn't this in the on-topic forums? If I can't use the entire board as the OTF, why should they be able to use this place for on topic discussions? Are you afraid Aeson or someone will show up in the on-topic forums to pwn you again?

Aeson never "pwnd" me in the first place, so how could he possibly now? He's a casual Mp player who doesn't even remotely understand the mechanics of the game, let alone the workings of previous civ games. He's so clueless he thought FriedPsitalon was some sort of civgod. Solver probably knows more about the game than Aeson does which is pretty god damn sad.

As for you Provost Harrison...a guy who is nothing more than an off-topic poster can't comment on a game and its players that reached their heigh of popularity before he ever even registered on this board.

If you win then you boast that Solver is just a newbie who doesn't know anything about MP and isn't fit to dispute your points in this thread.

If you lose then you whine how Civ4 is broken and even loser newbies like Solver are given a chance to beat "superior" players.

The fact is that you are not a superior player. You are a relic of a 10+ year old game who developed one strategy on one set of settings that you've used to kill newbies in every civ2 game for a decade now and are throwing a tantrum that it doesn't work in civ4 and no one plays or cares about civ2 anymore.

                                Time to move on.
