Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. It's a sad, sad day when television "news" — which is actually 75 percent commentary nowadays with the remainder being a few hard-news segments mixed in here and there — comes to represent the overall media in America.

I work for a newspaper/Internet operation. We've gotten broadsides from our readers who have right-wing and left-wing biases. Both think we're one or the other and, frankly, it's a general feeling among the non-superstar journalists in the media that, hey, if both righties and lefties are pissed at us, we're doing our jobs as the Fourth Estate — IOW, keeping those who hold power (be it in government, business or religion) honest with those they claim to govern and lead.

In the end, though, most of my colleagues are too damn busy doing their jobs, keeping food on the table, a roof over their heads, the bills paid and raising families to give a rat's patootie about "manipulating" the news for those with right- or left-wing biases.

So, there you have it, for better or for worse.

TV news has about as much news as MTV has music videos.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

US media is corporate-owned, and it reflects the wishes of its owners... We're kept ignorant while big business and crooked politicians raid the treasury...

If you want liberal bias, I can think of 1 TV channel - Link (375 on Direct TV). And its scary what the 2 parties have been doing to other countries in our name.

Oh, and don't forget the weekly American Idol update, which is on the news immediately after the Idol episode. Blah.
True. I solved the whole problem btw. I get all my news from the Apolyton OT.

I get all of my news from text media at this point. It's more difficult to spin in text than it is on television, at least without leaving fingerprints all over the story. Plus there's just greater variety and volume, you don't have to put up with all the crap you have to deal with as part of TV news just because there isn't a good alternative.
