Ever met one? Almost everyone I know who lives in London isn't British, and that's a good 100 odd people. It tends to be everyone's first port of call when they come to the UK.

      • Kontiki, that ignores that northern Orange County, western Riverside County, Southern Ventura County, and even the western most part of San Bernardino County are all part of Greater LA. It's one continuous urban area with the outlying areas effectively being bedroom suburbs filled with people who commute in for work.

The badly designed suburban sprawl is why LA's traffic is so bad.

That's absolutely terrifying. The dude doesn't care about anything but pretending to be pretentious. He uses obscure words for the sake of using them. "Dentine"? Does he even know what that means?

No, it doesn't. The US Census link covers Metro LA, including Orange and Riverside Counties. There might be some additional areas not in that, but that's also the case for Toronto. The total urban agg. for Toronto is closer to 8 million.

That is exactly what makes them great. They are cosmopolitan and global, not provincial. Why the hell would I want to be limited by what one country provides? I guess some people like their worlds small and insular.

New York is as insular as it gets. The people there are cold and rude.

Sorry dyde, you're just out to lunch. LA simply has more people and more immigrants by total numbers. You can go on and on about numbers of immigrants as a percentage of population but that simply isn't the whole picture.

As for all areas being included... YOU even said it was only LA county which only covers about half of the greater LA area. The place really is the worst urban sprawl ever and it is very, very spread out. It has spread far beyond the confines of old LA county. That's like saying downtown London is all there is to London.

Only to insuferable people like yourself, and that is true only of the jerks who hanged out at the places you probably frequented when you have come to the City. but I am happy, NYC has enough annoying people, so you not coming here is a great boon

                            No, to everyone.

It's a cold, anonymous city filled with self-righteous self-proclaimed "cosmopolitans" that are into the "scene" -- hollow shells of people.

I didn't. The city smells, the people are bland and anonymous and clinical. They also have awful, stupid-sounding accents.

You're still limited to "what one country can provide"; having French people or Japanese people living in New York doesn't make NYC anything like France or Japan. Instead of accepting this and reveling in the distinct national characters that make the world so grand, you instead choose to toss your national identity aside and replace it with a sterile and souless "international" cosmopolitan culture that is shared with every other "world-class" city on the planet. This culture is admittedly attractive to people fresh in from the sticks, but it seems quite pedestrian and boring once you've seen a bit of the world...
