  • Smoke in the kitchen

Well, I was about boiling some rice wich I have done some 1000 times before. Poured in the 1,5 dl water - got to boiling point - added 1 dl rice and reduced the heat from 6 to 1 (max/min) except I apparently forgot that little detail - result is some very black rice.

Please tell about your blunders so I can feel a bit better

Well, I assume that your worst kichen blunder was to forget that you had made a purchase at a McD drivein and the burger got cold.

When the smoke alarm goes off, you know dinner's done!

I have scorched rice at the bottom of a pot when I let it simmer too long (distracted by a computer game, most likely).

I hate it when that happens.

On a similar note, I am really happy with Burger King's new french fry container. It really does keep the fries warmer longer.

I new a guy once who tried to reheat a burger from Wendy's in the microwave. So you know, the wrappers from Wendy's are foil-lined

one time i was making scalloped potatoes. i set the oven, put the dish in, then i left them to cook for 40 minutes. to occupy myself while i was waiting for dinner to cook, i went to play tetris. then about 3 hours later i went back to the kitchen because i realized i was kind of hungry. then i remembered i was cooking potatoes. they were completely black on top.

i think that's the only time i ever totally ruined something.

A friend of mine once made noodles according the package. It said to put the noodles in a pot and boil for 5-7 minutes. Thing is you need to bring the water to a boil first and then add the noodles. I blame the directions. Still, we had mush for dinner.

              It was still tasty

My brother was boiling an egg and fell asleep. Water evaporated. Egg burned. Pan melted.

Well, once I was supposed to go to the center to eat dinner with my dad. I was supposed to cook meal for my dog (RIP) as well. As my father phoned to tell me to get out, I allegedly told him "right away, I just have to turn off the gas under (dog's name)'s meal". But it was when the doorbell rang. I've hidden the dog in the smallest room, right next to door, and opened - it was money I lent someone, she returned it by mail.
I went out, but didn't find my dad, so I returned home. As I approached my flat, I've seen group of people under it and smoke coming out of a window. A firetruck was approaching. I suddenly realised everything and ran to the firemen saying there's no need to go inside etc.

Now I have to explain something: my dog's meal was inside a celophone or whatever. When burned, it created LOTS of dense smoke.

When I've oppened the door, I saw nothing but white smoke. I've left the door opened and rushed to turn off the gas, check if my turtles are alright (they were acting as if nothing has happened, demanding food), and opened the windows in each room.
I forgot to unlock my dog from that little room, and this saved his life - the smoke there wasn't as dense as everywhere else. He kept coughing for days, but was alright.

It was then that the firemen arrived. One of them asked me how could I enter such a deep smoke. I left them there. They were checking everything. Everything stank for weeks, including clothes, and the kitchen walls were covered in icky dirt. My father promessed to the firemen on the phone that he will beat me up, so we got away without paying for their service (I don;t think we would anyway because it was not us that called them). One of the firemen has apparently stolen money I got from the mailman (I've left them on the desk).

Now, THAT is embarassing cooking story.

Well, that must be the ultimate case of burning off a portion of water - I feel much better
