OK, so a month or two back my old computer died and I bought a new one. I am believe the power supply on the old computer died but I preferred not to fix the old machine and instead bought a new Window's Vista machine. Unfortunately, all of my files are on my old hard drive (which is EIDE) and my new computer is SATA so I can't just plug the hard drive in and use it as a slave.
No problem, I go and buy a Deluxe USB 2.0 to IDE cable and plug it in. I hear the old hard drive power up and the Vista Desktop gives me the USB Storage device is plugged in icon in the lower right. So far so good. I open the Windows Explorer and sure enough external hard drive D:/ is listed. I click on D:/ and what I get in the explorer is... not directory tree I am used to seeing on my old computer. The master directories are only Dell, Program files, Sources, Tools, Users, and Windows. I'm trying to move my old music and video libraries from my old hard drive to my new one but I can't even see them. What gives?
