I'm not sure Imus will be able to get on Sirius, or make much money from doing so. He's not as in vogue as he was in the 90s.

interesting thing is he was giving msnbc their best ratings in that time slot. They were competing very well with CNN.

About time they got rid of that senile old man. Only a moron would say something as rude and despicable as "nappy-headed hos" on a national news channel.

It was the nappy-headed part coming from an old white dude that drove this "scandal" over the top.
It's because "nappy-headed" and "ho" put together screams of certain stereotypes of inner-city blacks.

Let me start by saying that I'm not an Imus fan.

His quote didn't sound as bad when you hear itin context. He said it with a tone of reverance, like someone would say "look at those bad motherf**kers."It was stupid, it was weird, and it wasn't very funny, but it was much better than if he would have said "those d*ke n**gers" or something like that. I think that he was railroaded. The suspension and apologies should have been enough. This non-story has been blown way out of proportion, and it has dwarfed far more significant stories (like the bombing of the Iraqi parliament insider the Green Zone).

Well, from the clips it seems like he is making stereotypes just because of few of the players have tattoos.

Imus wouldn't get on Sirius even if he were still in vogue, for the simple reason that they've cast their lot with Stern. I think your last sentence is a big distinction between this and past similar remarks by him. Advertisers didn't have a whole lot to lose this time around by canceling.

He blew it. Had he just concurred with his on-air pardner about the 'ho part, all would be well. Don't even dis the hair though.

                        Selective memory syndrome, eh ?

Rev. Jesse Jackson referred to Jews as "Hymies" and to New York City as "Hymietown" in January 1984 during a conversation with a black Washington Post reporter, Milton Coleman. Jackson had assumed the references would not be printed because of his racial bond with Coleman, but several weeks later Coleman permitted the slurs to be included far down in an article by another Post reporter on Jackson's rocky relations with American Jews.

It's a big win win for the advertisers. There is no way it can hurt them. There are a million other ways for them to get their message across, that dropping out of one vehicle isn't going to hurt one bit... and they can claim they don't support racists. There is no downside for them. They aren't cowards, just smart marketers.

This "scandal" was pretty stupid. What he said was dickish (as were previous comments) , but why exactly did this get wall to wall media coverage? How is this the biggest civil rights controversy of the age? Oh well, at least Anna Nicole Smith was replaced for a news cycle...

It saves him from being beaten up by the girls.

Having seen some of his other comments about people in the public eye, I can't see that these remarks were that much different- although I imagine the students don't have the same access to media outlets or lawyers as some of his previous targets.

Still, would he be a successful shock jock if his words were 'considered' or his comments 'measured' ?

You answered you own question. Before this, what were the biggest 'news' stories? Anna Nicole Smith's death and Britney Spears going nuts.

This is just another saga in celebrity misfortune that the media is falling over themselves to detail. The war is old and stale... it's celebrities where all the fun is at!
