I modded the title a touch. I've left it in the thread but felt it was unappropriate in the thread title.

    Direct any complaints to me.

Hopefully they'll have to now put presure on the artists for saying the same thing. When questioned most of the critics said that wasn't acceptable either so now they must speak up or appear hypocritical.

He could have gotten away with calling them hos.

It was the nappy-headed part coming from an old white dude that drove this "scandal" over the top.

I'm not sure of that. I personally think hos would have been enough. But we'll never know.

I've heard white men call women (and even black women) "hos" on the radio and on TV dozens of times.

Seriously, I don't think it would have even come close to breaking the news without "nappy-headed".

I certainly wouldn't even have blinked if I'd heard Imus say that.

I guess it would depend how it was used and in what context. His audiance size was a factor.

Personally, I can attest to the fact that I've called women (again, and even black women) "hos" (as a joke, among friends).

I have never called anybody "nappy-headed". It's not quite "******", but it's getting there.

Maybe it's not right that a sexual slur is less offensive than a racial slur, but it's certainly my gut reaction. I don't think twice about any sexual slur except cu** (which is a red line for me).

                      The whole thing is stupid.

                      Imus should have known better.

If MSNBC actually thought he did something wrong they would have fired him immeditatly after the incident and not wait until the sponsers pulled out.

Rutgers women's basketball being the cause of his down fall is pretty funny though

Agreed, but you even said "among friends". I doubt you would use it in an official address in front of strangers.
I rate hos right up there with cu** because I would repeat neither in front of any female white or black.

Ho is one of those words that have lost a lot of its bite. It's used so much these days that while Im sure some people would be offended in the right context, there are times when it isnt as bad as nappy headed would be. Then again, with his background what hasn't Imus used to describe people. His mouth finally caught up with him.

Ho may not be as bad as it used to be, but I wouldn't recommend calling a black woman one to her face.

I just can't believe that he thought that the joke was going to be acceptable.

Well, Sharpton, for one has called for radio stations to ban those acts numerous times. He says they can say anything they want, but the radio stations have a right to decide what goes on the air and he doesn't want any gangster rap on there.

Errr...when I said "among friends" I meant that the woman I was calling a ho was my friend and was there.

I actually am much more likely to use a slur like that when the object of the slur is there than with a group of male friends.

By the way, I call my wife "ho" and "*****" all the time (to her face, not ever when she's not around, and never in anger).

If I called her a cu** I'd probably be in danger of a kick to the balls.
