This doesn't surprise me. RC voters at the national level are pretty evenly divided on a lot of issues and RC voters tend to break down a little differently than prot voters. Also, I haven't heard any RC voters express hesitation about voting prot.

Mormon, on the other hand, gives me pause. But the RC voters of Mass. must have vetted the issue to their satisfaction.

That's because you have a higher than average degree of intelligence, perception, and actually think about stuff like this. The average voter, at the end of the day, doesn't apply much intellect or analysis to the process, and all the media types don't help much, either.

I think Iraq has to turn into a miracle, real soon, for it not to be an anchor around McCain's neck. He's already got enough problems as it is.

Rudy is the front runner right now and the right will line up for him because of pragmatism. We'll see how that works in the general (if people thought McCain had a temper, they ain't seen nothing yet).

In my humble opinion, the only ones who have a real chance of getting the party nominations are:

Repubs:
Rudy Giuliani
Mitt Romney

Democs:
Hillary Clinton
Barack Obama

Laughing Stocks:
John McCain
John Edwards

Personally I don't think any of them would make a really spectacular president, but at this point I'm just hoping for an "okay president."

I think Giuliani has good name recognition but is too extreme for many Republicans. Hillary Clinton might be capable, I don't know, but she's not especially well liked IMO. Barack Obama has charisma, but has to overcome both the race issue and being new on the political scene. And as a Latter-day Saint, even I think there are many much better options for a "first Mormon President" than Romney, though he's "okay" I guess.

So it could easily turn into a race of the substantial "minorities**:" Italian/Catholic, Mormon, Woman, or Black. Take your pick.

Oh, and at LotM, Mormons don't think Jews are "gentiles."

**: As opposed to the standard Rich White Anglo-Saxon Protestant presidents.
