Thanks guys (and gals), you all made me realise what a great place Apolyton is. Normally I don't post much but I really really had to get this out. It feels really good to know there are a lot of people all around the world that don't even know me but still care.

Update: his situation has stabilised (first 24 hours of the 72 the doctors told us about). They tried an operation on his pelvis and legs but the swelling in his head got bigger so they stopped and gave him some medicine to stop the swelling. Thank God it worked.

Tomorrow they'll wake him to see if there is some easy to spot neurological damage. And that is what really scares me. If he gets through this his broken bones are the least of his problems. They will heal eventually, even if it takes years. It's the possible brain damage that we are scared about.

Once again people, you are the best, thanks for your support
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
          Once again...

Quick update before I go to bed (first time this week I'll be in bed before 2 AM)

So far the news is good. Today they woke him up for the first time and all the signs indicated his brain is still working okay. His blood-pressure went up instantly and he reacted when the doctor spoke his name. So there is hope.

In the meanwhile they are operating on him every day on his pelvis and legs because there isn't anything else to do for now.

Anyway, he survived the first 72 hours so I feel really good about it. Jetje though I'm not so sure about. She is acting like she is coping real well but knowing her she will totally lose it not long from now. I hope I will be there when it happens.

Anyway, I really am grateful for all your kind words. Thanks

The pelvis and broken legs can be fixed slowely but surely. The swelling in his brain down is good news , and he knows his name. The blood pressure can be due to medication and for the pain he is in due to his broken pelvis. The road to recovery is a long one and he will need a lot of support from those cloest to him, the girlfriends and you. I do wish you the strength to help him as he adjusts to his situations.

The bad news is that this disqualifies him from ever posting on Poly.

As long as there is reaction, that is it's not monotonous but reactive, it's a good sign. So not the worst kind of brain damage, but keep us posted with the developments. Sounds good so far.

And like Mrs. Tuberski says, they can fix the rest, it just takes time..

Thanks Mrs. T. You know more than I do about medical stuff so I do appreciate everything you post in this thread.

IIRC you have a medical profession, so hats off to you. This is the first time i see nurses, doctors and what have you in action, and man, are these people giving everything they have. I wouldn't last one day if I had to do their job.
