  • IGN's Top 25 PC Games of All Time

They do it for consoles too, but that's more other games. Since this list has Civ on it, and other games, Off Topic it is. If I'm wrong a mod can move it.

They seem to use the one game per series rule as well.

    25) IL-2 Sturmovik
    24) Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six
    23) Unreal Tournament 2004
    22) The Sims
    21) MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat
    20) Deus Ex
    19) Warcraft 2: The Tides of Darkness
    18) Call of Duty
    17) World of Warcraft
    16) Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
    15) Grim Fandango
    14) Company of Heroes
    13) System Shock 2
    12) Battlefield 1942
    11) Sid Meier's Pirates!
    10) Age of Empires 2: Age of Kings
    9) Half-Life 2
    8) SimCity 2000
    7) Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn
    6) StarCraft
    5) Fallout
    4) Rome: Total War
    3) Star Wars TIE Fighter
    2) Civilization IV
    1) X-COM: UFO Defense

I like the list. Any big gamesite list with Fallout, Pirates!, System Shock 2, and Deus Ex in its Top 25 is more than alright with me.

Oblivion does not deserve to be anywhere near that list. What were they thinking?

        I dislike that list.

Rome, #4? Ummm... I liked it, I liked it a lot, but... no.

I've never played XCOM, always see it on these lists... was it really that good? What exactly was it?

The games on it I've played mostly deserve being on it (with the exception of Oblivion). The games I haven't, I don't know. But the ordering seems completely arbitrary.

I admit I'm surprised that I never see Elite on these lists.

Mostly I just feel like the ordering is all wrong, and they often pick the wrong game out of a series. They seem to really love sequels that didn't improve all that much on the original.

              A good top five:

              Warcraft II
              Civilization II
              Half Life
              SimCity
              Doom

And... was Pirates that great a game?

Nice list, but where's Planescape: Torment? i don't think any other RPG even geets close to the complexity and intelligence of P:T. But still, nice list.

I'm sorry but if Civ2 isn't on the list, it isn't worth the pixels you wasted to create the thread.

                      SimCity
                      Doom[/q]

CivIV is better than CivII... that's why it was picked.

And SimCity 2000 is FAAAR better than the original SimCity.

                      Warcraft II is on there.

They liked HL2 over HL, but said it was close.

No Doom is a puzzle, but then again, I'm glad one list doesn't get bogged down in FPSs.

It's also a little early to call CoH a "top PC game of all time" IMO.

It's taking either Total Annihilation or Homeworld's spot IMO.

I feel like CivIV was a really good effort, and it's ensured that the series survives for years longer. I don't object to IV being chosen over II, although I feel like CivII was the game that most towered over other games of its time.

Oh, and Imran, SimCity 2000 is more than fair. I didn't mean to imply that it was one of the sequels that shouldn't have been favored. It's a good one.

                              Probably Total Annihilation's spot.
