It's interesting that in Canada, law enforcement is using sites like YouTube to apprehend criminals. France is taking the other route, in banning the videos...

Well, banning the videos from YouTube et al might be a good idea, since happy slappings are strongly motivated by histrionics.
However, most of the distribution occurs outside of internet, as muggers show the vids to their friends directly on their cellphone's screen.

My main concern is actually with the way we deal with illegal immigrants.
We are progressively creating a situation where they have no rights whatsoever. We aren't there yet, but they have lost many rights in the past few years, and haven't earned any in the same period.

Or to get to something that does exist, take the example of child porn. Also something where the punishment for the act ought to make punishment for the distribution of the recording superflous.
