I don't think this is a cap-com debate although there is some of that here.

To address the rest of your post, maybe you don't really know that many communists. I personally, speak for homosexuals, women, minorities and just about anyone who needs it.

    • Ok well why is it relevent that I don't speak for you when you don't need me to?
      I was responding to this:

You might want to consider that maybe the reason they tend to go after leftists first is because we speak for everyone.
Then, when I said you didn't speak for me, you said I didn't know you very well.

      ...

I don't really understand what you're on about now.

I think that he finds it a bit annoying when people claims that they speak for everyone - I, at least do, espcially when they say things that I disagree with.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

If you ever need me to speak for you I'll do it.

Ok, that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about speaking up for the oppressed.

              • Incidently, does anyone else here think that maybe, just maybe, it might be in the best interest of the youths involved in this incident to experience *not* getting what they wanted just 'cause they wanted it?

You don't always get what you want. But if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need.

I mostly got what I wanted as a child. As a result, I was a tad spoiled. I've fought that as an adult... I don't deal with failure or things not going my way particularly well. Only child syndrome Thankfully, my parents weren't *that* bad. They did occasionally say no, and I'm better off for it.

I don't know the specifics of what this particular group did, or what their socioeconomic backgrounds are, but they sure do come off as terribly spoiled.

                • What exactly makes you think that they are spoiled, because they wanted to have a building to socialize in?

I've known plenty of communists who have supported equality for oppressed groups, but the more honest ones would not have claimed to have been speaking for them. There's a difference.

Because they expected - DEMANDED - that they be given said building free-of-charge in perpetuity, and, when they didn't get their way, they rioted. Reading their account of events gives one some insight into their mentality.

Mummy and Daddy didn't give them what they wanted (nay, demanded!) and they threw a temper tantrum.

How can I speak for homosexuals if I am not homosexual? How can I speak for women if I am a man?

I can support calls for equality, and I can oppose discrimination, but it would be vain of me to think that I can speak for someone or something that I am not. I've certainly known some feminists and gays who get quite annoyed with leftists who claim to represent them when they don't.

Likewise many women get annoyed with feminists who claim to speak for them but don't.

Well they aren't demanding much. Usually if you are spoiled you demand a lot. In fact, you usually don't stop demanding things no matter how much you get. I'm sure that there are a lot of spoiled children, but I doubt many are leftists. Usually if you are spoiled you tend to think like daddy.

Not for entertainment value, at least. That 'Freddie' travesty in your choice of paper must be the longest running comic strip in history that hasn't been fun on any one occasion.
