I would point my ire at my elected officials who were more interested in pork projects rather than flood control.

I too am getting tired of New Orleans' whining. This is at least partly their own fault (the municipal and state gummints, not the average schmoe living there). Furthermore, there is a legit argument to be made that rebuilding everything may not be the smart move.

Who is going to insure it, anyway? That will surely be next. They will rebuild and then whine and cry if insurance premiums are high, or if insurers refuse to underwrite the risk at all.

I'm tired of people whining about people of New Orleans whining. Seriously, if you don't care (as I really don't) then just ignore it and move on. You don't have to read or listen to it!

NO's whining is important, though. They might actually get more money.

OMG, and that money IS YOURS!

Seriously, so much money flows into and out of the government that I'm sure we could find a lot more that you wouldn't like.

Last I heard, plots in the devastated, but generally nicer areas are going for a pretty penny ($100k+). I'm not sure how much these prices are based on wishes rather than offers, however.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. I'm sure we could. It'd be difficult to find $77 billion's worth in one item though.

Since the budget is expressed in trillions of dollars, I bet we could.

77 Billion on one item is tough unless you just philosophically oppose certain spends like -- the Iraq war, the military generally, the space program, foreign aid

About 135 million individual income tax returns are filed each year. $77 billion represents $570 per return. I think that amount's worth caring about.

Wasn't NO getting $200 billion already?

                              Here's the blow-by-blow.

About $200 billion was slated by Bush for the entire impacted coast. The congress wasn't pleased with the invoice.

Then Louisiana expressed the opinion that the $200 billion was slated only for the state of Louisiana. The congress wasn't pleased with the sentiment.

The congress proceeded to spend lesser amounts, and lesser amounts at once, than wished by both Bush and the Louisianans.

I want $77 billion for Virginia, for, um, roads

                                Actually, that would be kickass.
