Something funny just happened. I regret that I turned the sales call down too fast, I would have loved to have a chat with some manager there first.
So.. selling magazines on the phone, well, I have no problem with the people who make the calls, after all, they need the money and they would be doing something else if they could at that moment in their lives and everyone is usually so rude to them, I'd rather be pleasant and just turn them down politely. I don't like to play with them, they're just doing their job you know? I don't want to waste their time either by letting them give me a 5 minute pitch and then turning it down. You know, I'm not going to buy so I'll release your time to make those calls to someone else, so they can do their job.
But this time, I got a 'congrats call'. I hate those. You know, just tell me what you're selling. Don't congratulate me, I haven't won anything. But this time it was, "congrats, you have been a great customer to xxxxxx for a long time, a valuable customer, and we'd like to congratulate you and thank you."
I was like damn, that's nice. I can't recall this company but,... thanks, that cheered me up a bit. I was thinking maybe this isn't a sales pitch, maybe this is some campagn to thank the customers or something. Give a nice handshake to long time customers.
But then it continued, "We have got gifts for you, and to all of our long time valued customers.". NICE! Gifts? That's how they always sell but you know, I thought maybe I was the customer of this company. BUt I couldn't recall the company.. I was trying to remember what they even produce.
So it turned out to be a magazine company, that owns like a million magazines. The only problem is, I haven't been ordering a single magazine for years now. At one point, I had this one magazine subscribed, but it was a long time ago and I'm SURE it wasn't owned by this company, because it was a small, small magazine made by some true weirdoes (I loved them).
So I ask, "Excuse me who you were with again? OK. Listen, I'm not a subscriber right now, and I know for a fact I have never ordered anything from your company, so how am I a long time valued customer?"
The dude went silent. I knew what was up. But I couldn't blame that guy, he was just doing his job, with very low salary and that pay came from the magazines he was able to sell so.. I didn't burst into anger from hell to him. I should have said to, "let me talk to your manager", I regret that I didn't. Because THAT DUDE would have gotten some questions from me.
So. I know how it works. They had bought a list of numbers, addresses etc, from another company that sells them. Unfortunaltey I have never ever agreed to 'release my info to 3rd parties' and I am strict and careful when it comes to these things. It is quite obvious my information has been sold regardless. I'd like to know who it was, I'd sue the **** out of them. And I would prolly mess with their networks. And I'd prolly destroy their customer DB.
Anyway, so I was pissed off. It's not like you can trust entities to respect your information. They even had updated information on me, the kind of info that is not on public registers, so I know they got it from another company that promised to not release it, or better yet, sell it.
Sometimes I think these mother****ers are twisting the agreement, as in 'we didn't give it to a 3rd party, since this company is actually our subcontractor, so it's not a 3rd party', and once that party gets the info, well, they aren't binded to the agreement so they'll just sell it forward.
I will bash heads, I will do violence, I will do damage when I get to know who sold my information.
