I truly do doubt their statistics at that level. That's 60 people on your tiny little island. Only ~30 of them are actually in the adult age range (old enough to have reached their peak, young enough not to have passed it).

175 is 7 or 8 people who have a measureable adult IQ higher or equal to that in the UK...

Yeah, things definitely get fuzzy at around there (though I understood it to be around 170, but that was a while ago when there was a bit more confidence in testing in general.) At that point a 10-20 point swing is not unusual based on things like sleep and emotional state. This is one of the reasons why I don't like this sort of testing.

Oh, and to demonstrate how crap even the statistics are at levels higher than that, a 200 "IQ" as is occasionally reported corresponds to one in about 80 billion. So there is a 1 in 13 chance that any such person is living currently.



There are ~12 people with a 190 or greater and ~600 with a 180 or greater (this is a purely statistical statement, as the value in attempting to define anything like pure "intelligence" is questionable at that level)

Even assuming you manage to find and test all these people you still don't really have enough to go on.

Maybe at 170 you do. There's a population of ~10000 of these people (actually, less than this...this whole time I've been assuming that the entire world demonstrates a similar distribution of IQs as the developed world on identical tests, which is completely false; in reality the developing world tends to score lower on identical IQ tests, meaning that the pool to draw the upper tail of IQs from doesn't necessarily exist there)

I'll stick with the more conservative assumption and say that IQs up to 160 might mean something. Beyond that...?
