So you make a hundred bazillion bucks in your life and die? Then what? So what? Life insurance...for what?
All that money, for what? You didn't spend it all, so what now? You can be just proud as punch that the government will get it, unless you leave to some cat that hung around outside your home.
Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

In today's Europe you can outsorce much of the cost to others. State will generally pay for kids' education, perhaps even food while in school the whole day, and in many countries you also get a lump sum for every kid you have

It's not necessary about the money, but the fact that he could live his dream (that is if his dream was traveling the world without having to worry about anything)

But your question could be the same for person B:

"So you get a couple of kids and grandkids and then die? Then what? So what?"

It's not about what you end up with in the end, but if you were happy with your life
This space is empty... or is it?

What B has is his genetic legacy passed on to future generations, which is the only measure of success that exists for all lifeforms across the board.

I already said that I thought A was more successful, but having children is an achievement that does outlive the person.

                I agree.
If B had at least education and had a life without debts it could be different, but with the example posted in the OP IMHO it is definitely A who is more successful.

but to raise them in poverty? would THAT be an achievement?

Even People without children can have legacies that outlive them.
Think of da Vinci, Mozart, even Hitler, they are famous even now, decades to hundreds of years after their death.
Not because of children but because of what they did in their lifes.

Being the educated world traveler that he is, "oddball" Sloww is likely to have left his money to a worthy cause, like founding a university or something.

Little Larry grew up to discover the cure of genital warts.
OOPS, that's right. Papa Lawrence was satisfied just whacking off while travelling.
