Pele is very well known by name, but I know very few people who can recognize him by face.
I think same with the pope, in the street dressed casually you probably wouldn't recognize him.
Elizabeth also has sort of very plain features and nobody would notice her in a mall in Canada.

I do see what you mean when you say plain features, Lul Thyme. However, it always strikes me when I see pictures of Queen Elizabeth as a younger woman how radiant and yes, beautiful she looks.

I agree, she was very beautiful.
I look at her picture now, and I just think of tons of old women I see everybody everywhere.
I don't know, these things are hard to explain, but I have seen her picture many times, and I don't think I would recognize her on the street if she was dressed normally.

Hu Jintao probably can't be it. I know who he is, but I surely wouldn't recognize him by a portrait. I often find it very hard to distinguish Asian faces, and Chinese are the hardest.
