Spec, blah blah blah, don't listen to these turds. "="-operator is nto the same as equals. "==" is equals. IF you want to read it, just read x = x+1 as x's value is x + 1. Forget about these lefts and rights. Let's just stick to what it really is, and what it is, it's just a mistake Spec made with the operator. Stick your lefts and rights to your butts, sirs!

      1.That's a very minor modification
      2. Concerning last comment, it depends which of the hospital or student is "male", as the algorithm isn't sex-symmetrical in the first place.

BTW these kinds of algorithm are used all the time, from scheduling problems (matching people to time slots) or assigning courses to teachers etc...

The only reason the hospitals were brought up as an example was that the original paper for this particular version of the algorithm mentioned it.

I'm sure that cleared things up for him.

It did, because I put it like it is, in simple terms It didn't have anything to do with anything else than the operator itself, so the most logical approach is to explain what that operator does. I know. I'm glorious.

I count that as slight; it's not hard to see how to modify the original to work with that.

Bzzt. It used to, but now they use one that's student-optimal because of the problem of students in relationships. Or so says the professor. The TMA is male-optimal, but it can be trivially made female-optimal by switching rules.

If we legalize polygamy, we have to legalize polyandry too.

Well technically the result (of allowing same-sex pairing) is that we have to permit any number and combination of sexes.

Though we don't really "have" to do anything; it's just that when any member of the population can pair with any other, it's possible that there exists no stable pairing.
