Please, show me what a valid poll for this subject would be Lordshemale. I'd like to know what a valide poll is...Because, from your point of view, there has never been one in the history of Poly.

I think it'd be better if we managed to drop "science" from "political science" and call it something else entirely. Having to call it "political science" is self deception and just sounds ridiculous, if it were a science it wouldn't have to call itself one. Or we could leech off of philosophy and just call it "political philosophy", but to be borrowing credence from philosophy is just rock bottom.

I think being able to clearly express your thoughts is the soul of education.
I'm sorry, are your public schools so bad that you can't teach this earlier than university?
So why do so many 5 year engineering programs produce people with the writing talent of 10 year olds?
It seems to be a problem with the American education system at large. In fact the artsy people here tend to be the worst participants in debates because they don't think facts and solid reasoning are important in lieu of fancy words (see: FakeBoris).

No, being able to have thoughts is the soul of education. Being able to express them is useless without the first part.
I will go with you there, but what good is the first part without the second? You can get the first from Arts or Sciences, but the second is usually not provided by the sciences. This was not always the case, and I suspect at your level of education it is not the case.
I think that becoming a productive member of society is one of the major goals of education.
Just because you may earn more than someone does not make that person non productive. I make a hell of alot more than every hard science major I know, and most of the engineers.
I did not study a "technical" major, by the way.
I know. My beef with this topic is engineers. We have alot in the Navy and I get untold joy from pointing out that there technical degrees mean **** because their jobs are to manage people and, to their everlasting horror, write reports/breifs/summaries/professional papers. Anything technical they teach you when you get here.
"The DPRK is still in a state of war with the U.S. It's called a black out." - Che explaining why orbital nightime pictures of NK show few lights. Seriously.

Dude, if you got a real degree (eg, engineering), and ended up in any form of government job, you are certifiably the worst in your field.
Government work is the field of artsy people who can't get any other jobs (eg, GePap). The Military is merely an extension with lower requirements than civil servants.

In the Navy? That's rich.
How much do you make.

If you guys really stop developing those skills in high school, that explains allot.
Of course that is what I am getting at, if you are a science/technical major, you DO stop developing them in high school. Formally anyways, obviously some of you have accomplished it yourselves. I suspect you do things on the side your fellows sneer at, like read books without numbers.

This is true. But there's little evidence that getting a degree in sociology improves your career prospects in any way. If you are not utilising an expensive education then outside of "personal development" it was a waste.

In other words, good writing is something you can achieve with very little effort. It's not something you need to spend 4 years doing in your late teens and early twenties.

They develop on their own, because we're smart enough not to have our hand held in the basics.

No, not at all. They're developed all the time. The writing structure of a formal science paper puts filosofy and other papers to shame.

I hate books. The last fiction book I read was in High School English.

For that very reason, my engineering program requires a certain number of writing classes from the faculty of arts and for most disciplines, and a technical writing class from the engineering department.

What's really funny is how badly written this paragraph is.
