Actually I do admit that is a real annoyance of mine. I see how many empty and seemingly abandoned properties there are around London and that they could be used far more effectively...the other problem is that some of the projects they are building on brownfield land (especially around the Thames Gateway) are pretty revolting and have very little in the way of decent public transport connections (they have found places to throw up houses but have given scant consideration to transportation needs).Speaking of Erith:

Why bother building? There are over 800,000 habitable-yet-empty houses in Britain. All it would take is a spot of forward-thinking legislation, and the housing problem will be (largely) solved.
