The ethical way to live, apparantly, is to sit in the dark eating cold food with no heating, TV, music or computer. Perhaps reading a book by candlight is permitted, provided the candle is made of local, organic beeswax and the book is very old, therefore not raping the planet by being made recently.

On no account must you use any mode of transportation other than your feet, though shoes may also be unethical seeing as they require producing, which in turn uses energy and might benefit evil corporations.

theres no point doing all that crap if the lazy yanks dont give up their lives of luxury, and the numerous chinese dont give up their lives of basic amenities

sorry that should be lazy westerners, but it kind of rolls of the tongue. sorry again

I also second the notion that -10C is warm. -35 windchill is cold Had that a couple days ago, and I was like, man, I've gone soft living in the south.

It's -13C right now, with a windchill of -23C, and hundreds of students are outside protesting against (potential) tuition increases. You know... because it's ridiculous that they should pay $1300 per semester. Damn commies

Uhh... are you talking about cyclones? The context in what you're using the word "synoptic" certainly suggests so.

I don't think synoptic means what you think it means.

You know, I've only just realised that his title is: 'Coldest Night in Britain This Millennium'

I just assumed he wrote 'this year', and was thinking of course, you idiot...

I wonder what the coldest temperature recorded in the UK was throughout the last millennium? Let me see if Google will reveal all!

It was the coldest night for 11 years. (at several airports stations)

                              This thread is a hoot.

Next summer I'm going to start a "I Can't Believe How Hot It Is In Canada" thread for the amusement of our southern neighbours.
