You're not updated as to what is going on.

The thread was hijacked halfway through by the guy I'm talking about. He calls himself Salah-al-Din. You are referring to incantrix, the thread opener.

Given her responses to a number of the questions, it is abundantly clear that she is no authority on Islam.

She goes in the "mostly harmless" category (at least through page 3)

Aneeshm, there is something really creepy about your fascination with Islam. If Islam were a person, you'd be arrested for stalking. Seriously, find a hobby... get laid... just do something besides obsessing over something you despise. It's not productive.

What's the point? Is the point to say, "hey look, here's a muslim, and he believes all these things, he sounds like Taleban!!".. So what? He represents himself as a one person. Are you trying to generalize over a billion people after one guy?

Are you interpreting his answers and questions through your OWN cultural experineces perhaps? Is your filter on? Can you see yourself in the picture, and are you able to distance yourself from it, to get an objective view of your subjective stance, just to understand it at least 1%?

It's not really difficult to find a muslim poster on the internet. It's not really difficult ot find a muslim out there in the real life either. SO what is your point? You know you can google this stuff up, in fact it's extremely difficult to avoid it. Muslim opinions. All kinds of opinions. Is there a Christian opinion? Or a Jewish opinion?

Or are you just seeing the 'interesting ones', who strengthens your own idea about muslims? IF you have 50 people who are completey different, and one who fits the stereotype, you'd claim the stereotype is a fact, and in fact a dominant feature? Do you just see what you want to see?

How much have you travelled? What kind of friends do you have? Do you _really_ know different religions and/or other major philosophies? How much life experience do you have? Do you follow all news, and do you understand how discourse is created?

So, what is the point of this question you are presenting to us?

Heh, by the way, the more conservative Muslim who showed up partway through the thread pegged aneeshm right away:

Brother Aneeshm, can I ask what religion you follow? I have an inkling that it is Hinduism? If so, I think the same tactic you are using could be used against you, but with a more devestating effect, since the Hindu literature is replete with troubling quotes. Especially since a very strong belief in Hinduism is in regards to the caste system, in which certain people are born in a higher caste than others, etc.

I caution against such a vengeful approach, but I shall nonetheless reply to your posts so that others may not be misguided. Instead of resorting to this aggressive and confrontational stance, I ask that you instead leave this thread to the truly inquisitive and not those who simply seek to bash Muslims.

I decided not to be confrontational, because that would have completely degenerated into a I-quote-you-quote slugfest. I've had my share of that, and I doubt he would know anything about Hinduism, so it would have taken too long, and too much effort, to try to explain such a radically different worldview to him. It would also have dragged the thread off-topic. It took restraint on my part not to respond with the big guns, but I did it.

And now I realise the wisdom of that move - it becomes clear when you see the further material that person posted. As I told him, I'd be asking him a battery of questions which would enable me to judge him and his religion. All these questions are unconfortable, because they explore that grey area where Islam is at odds with today's morality. So far, the religion he has outlined fit every idea I had about Islam. This validation of my views could not have come about if I had been confrontational.
