Fantastic cancer treatment breakthrough at AIIMS/IIT!
The fact that this is being hailed as the "the biggest techno-medical breakthrough from India in the past few years" should tell you everything you need to know about the quality of India's research institutions.
I live in Baltimore right now, and it's ~10 C in the middle of January, so I'm quite happy with the weather. I'm negative about stuff when others are overly enthusiastic about it. It's my way of bringing balance.

Why are Canadians so negative about everything? Is it the cold weather and short days?
Seasonal affective disorder is my guess.
It's called realism. If it were a more common ideology in the US, maybe you'd be less screwed up.

a) Given that the cost of the material itself is going to be only a minor consideration (when you take into account the cost of the surgery) it's not all that important
Nonsense. When you decrease the cost of one of the components of the treatment by such a large order of magnitude it is extremely important. Even more so when you couple it with the cost of the surgery.
b) I think they've probably overstated the cost of the currently available material. Probably by including in it the IP cost. I truly doubt that the manufacturing costs are that high. Whereas the cost they're quoting is manufacturing cost
Translation: you don't know.
c) The biodegradability aspect is nice, but not essential. It's a relatively minor inconvenience to go back in and pull out the gel
Not having to do a second operation on a cancer patient is "nice, but not essential"?
d) Even if a-c are dismissed, this is not a "fantastic cancer breakthrough". It's simply an improvement of an existing treatment. The media hype surrounding medical advances is almost always a ridiculous example of overstatement. So calm down and gain some perspective.
A through C are dismissed and your whole post was an overstatement. Stick to physics kid.

Yeah, go tell that to a cancer victim who can't afford treatment, you pompous, insensitive jerk.
But I advocate a system where they don't need to worry about affording treatment. I'm condemning the system that makes that an issue.
Apparently your educational system also needs some funding.

Er, no. When one cost is orders of magnitude larger than the other, it really doesn't matter how small you make the other cost.

Civilized countries have socialized medicine, where people can have a treatment...

Look, most people who get cancer either smoke or do some other activity that massively increases their risk. It's their own fault.
Lung cancer, yes. Cancer in general, I'm not sure that's true...
