Don't you dare use chemistry. I'm the uberchemist on this board.

That would be me. The Heartland Cafe is a hippie-granola type place in Chicago with "natural" food and one hell of a beer selection. Before the micro brew fad caught on, it was the only place in the Midwest you could find a beer that didn't taste like piss and detergent. It has some ties to the Chicago left. Both TCP and I have eaten and drunk there, though not knowingly at the same time if ever.

Also, the t-shirt comment refers to Che t-shirts.
Very good comment. You forgot the art on the walls, there. Also, my gf (Chicago jazz singer) and my grad school band, both playing there to large crowds. Great place for fun bands.

Very good analysis. You forgot the "Mau-mauing* the liberals" art on the walls.

          (I'm drinking so...this is repetitive...but mau-mauing is such a wonderful term.)

I had you down as slightly centre-right, but then again I don't read all of the US political threads. If you see yourself as a hardcore moderate too then please take a share of my vote.

Now, who else have I missed?

I think he's a liberal green masquerading as a communist. In some senses he's actually a left-libertarian, which is where I see myself.

I don't think he's a commie, though. Not in my book. His Malthusian tendencies, together with some disdain for the development of productive forces under capitalism confirmed that for me. Nice guy though, I'd be happy to have a beer with him - as long as it wasn't any of that hippy real ale crap.

I thought i might have been included in those who are liberals one day and neocons the other

On domestic politics I see myself as somewhere between New Democrats and Right Wing Social Democrats (only Guev will recognize SDUSA, I think) Im left of the New Dems because I think income distribution per se is an issue public policy SHOULD address (while I think many New Dem pols agree with that, the DLC and PPI as orgs tend not to). Im right of even the right wing SDs cause Im strongly in favor of free trade - the traditionally AFLCIO oriented SDUSA is not. So pretty close to Blairism, on a range of issues. Also similar to Blairism, in focusing my "liberalism" on economics and social justice more than on civil liberties, which puts me outside of traditional liberal concerns in the USA, where the liberal-soc dem alliance was, more than in Europe, dominated by bourgeois intellectuals rather than trade unionists. Also im not hostile to religion, and even want to be conciliatory to Christian fundies, which fits in with the cultural politics of Hilary or Obama but may look right wing from the other side of the pond. On foreign policy I consider myself a sane hardliner, with a Wilsonian streak. Basically the New Democrat - New Labour stand, which isnt that far (on international relations) from that of the more moderate Neocons. On issues related to middle east politics i have both a strong familiarity with the area, and a concern for it, and my position sometimes puts me at odds with the position of some New Democrats (and somewhat more so at odds with New Labour).

Since Im more inclined to post here about, say, ME politics than about US domestic policy relative to income distribution, I may appear more conservative than I am.

                                With libertarian topping.

I think many of us are actually more complex creatures than the old labels can deal with.
