Iraq can't stop people from blowing up thousands of their citizens every month. Do you really think they could have held Saddam securely for the rest of his life?

Actually the whole concept of governemental/societal applied justice comes into question. If one argues that governmental/societal justice is the final arbiter of crimes and that it supplants familial and tribal feuds and vendettas then Sadaams final sentence is truly a civlized one. The question before us is Iraq capable of accepting civlized concepts such as societal justice. Capital punishment is not so much in question here merely whether Iraq is ready for civilized societal concepts.

a) That is true, but the level of chaos in Iraq is so high that I have my doubts about their abilities even that far

b) If you're going to go that far for Saddam then you need to also go the distance for common murderers etc. He doesn't deserve any more consideration than they do. Unless you can build enough secure prisons to hold them all and ensure that only an insignificant number of them manage to escape, executions are the only reliable way to protect Iraqi society from the elements inside it which wish to continue the chaos.

I don't get the people complaining about how the execution was handled. I think most of them could find **** in an ice cream cone. I'm happy he is dead. I think the neck snapped quite cleanly. He's dead and that's the way we wanted him. Works good for me. Most of these complainers are just anti-DP or love finding some fault in anything US related.

Your argument seems to be anyone who found the execution distasteful is anti US.

I would love for a non-USA citizen to point out that the USA authorities wouldn't have done it so quickly. Not that it bothers me, but it bothered them.
