Cause the Anfal was a deliberate genocide of men, women and children based on their ethnicity, which I put in a seperate moral category from initiating a war, the rights and wrongs of which are often complex (and were not completely simple in the case of the Iran-Iraq war)

Yeah, Im sure there will be other steps on the Anfal, but I doubt any will draw as much publicity as a trial would have. I understand the political necessity you refer to, but I dont really see anything happening on the ground that wouldnt have allowed a few more months for a trial on the other grounds.

Family site? Why do I get the feeling you've been looking for this all day?

          • BTW, news sites keep repeating what a "peaceful and tranquile" process it all was. There's a lot of shouting and noise in that video. The description of it having been a "very Iraqi process" seems more appropriate.

                    • During the french revolution, nobles which were bad rulers, generally died bravely, with pride

                      • Of course not.
Then we dont disagree, but there is a distinction to be made because in the past governments following this doctrine of a divine mandate argued that the divine mandate gave the government the power to decide what "rights" we had, if any. The Enlightenment changed that mentality, our rights come from the Creator, not government. I strongly suspect Jesus agreed with that change

Paul blurs the matter, enough to where governments could quote him to justify state actions that violate all sorts of rights we take for granted.
