People are volunteering left and right to pull the lever.

This reminds me of some of the elaborate randomizing feature they have in execution procedures, like two switches with only one randomly armed to actualy deliver the execution and no one ever knows which one it was.

They could come up with some kind of phone or internet based system by which everyone can press or click a button at the end of a countdown and their would be a very slim chance that they with the actual exicutioner.
