I still like my idea of helicoptering him to a desolate spot somewhere in Iraq, giving him a few hours headstart, and then announcing the spot where he was last seen.

I would kidnap him and put him on my new talk show I'm producing.

The White House released a statement praising the court's decision.

"Today marks a milestone for the Iraqi people's efforts to replace the rule of a tyrant with the rule of law," said Scott Stanzel, deputy White House press secretary.

"We look forward to seeing the written judgment. Saddam has received due process and the legal rights that he denied the Iraqi people."

The White House doesn't exactly praise the decision of a death penalty being enacted, rather it praises that a court decision was made at all. Unless there is more in the statement that is not printed here.
The US took the position of letting the Iraqis try Saddam rather than doing it ourselves, Nuremburg style. It has been somewhat of a fiasco. I think everyone will just sigh relief, once he gets snuffed. Except for pussies.

and terrorists who will step up their attacks.

Saddam did a good job holding the country together. He was a good leader. . Seriously though he held the country together. Something the U.S. cannot do. So by that logic, Saddam is a better leader than George Bush. Not that it's saying much.

Well, I guess the terrorists were just not attacking before out of highmindedness. Now that Saddam is gone, they will redouble. Unlikely, unlikely. Actually the show of force will be helpful. Sure, they may org a little extra for that one day...but in general, the execution will help Shiites and hurt Sunnis. By showing the Shiites having a little steel.

It's a separate issue. If he was not to be executed I would still want him to stand trial for other crimes.

although now the verdict is final, I do want to get this over with as quickly as possible. To avoid the media circus, and to move on with life (no pun intended).

If you take one course of action you have to stick to it in this case. Either let the Iraqis do as they choose, or apply the justice yourself for international war crimes. It was politically expedient, I think, to follow the route of using Iraqi courts.

That's why they are sighing with relief. That they (maybe) will be able to stick to the course of action. Are you dense?

Well...if you were pro-death penalty, you would want him snuffed ASAP, vice screwing up more courtrooms for years.
