One thing I've noticed is that Americans seem to have a bit more knowledge/interest in these sorts of skirmishes than Europeans. Wonder why.
Judging by the respective coverage of nearly all such skirmishes in various European news outlets vs the coverage in American news outlets it would appear that relative interests are the reverse of what you claim.

Way to mix posts. I said calling yourself an Emperor and being an Emperor are to different things. Then I pointed out that bith countries would do better united instead of divided and that the Eritrean succession had more to do with the former marxist dictator then real differences between the people. The reality is 1/3 of the Eritrean people are Ethiopian and the Remander are 1/3 Orthodoxed Christian and 1/3 muslim. Now the people won't rejoin Ethiopia but it is better for both that the nation remain united just as it was better the south lost the Aerican civil war.
They speak the same language, mostly have the same religion, and were historically one country. Everyone is better off. Especially since the first real divisions occured due to European colonialism.
Of course he is, someone has to fight against the infidels!
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

But not really; Eritrea only seceded AFTER they helped Ethiopia throw out the Marxists. As a reward, Ethiopia gave Eritrea the freedom for which they'd been fighting for 30 years.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States on Wednesday signaled support for Ethiopia's military offensive in Somalia, saying Addis Ababa had reasons for concern about the country's internal warfare.
The White House urged restraint by Ethiopia but also said the intervention should not be used as an excuse by Somalia's warring factions to avoid peace negotiations.
"Ethiopia has genuine security concerns with regard to developments within Somalia," said Gordon Johndroe, spokesman for the White House National Security Council.
Johndroe added that Ethiopian forces were there "at the request" of Somalia's interim government, which wants to break the stronghold of the Islamic Courts Council on southern Somalia and Mogadishu.
"We have urged, and continue to urge, the Ethiopian government to exercise maximum restraint in intervening or responding to developments in Somalia and to assure the protection of civilians," Johndroe said. "However, no Somali party should use external actors as an excuse to avoid further dialogue."
Highlighting U.S. concern about the conflict,
President George W. Bush spoke on Tuesday to Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni about Somalia.
The United States has accused the Islamic movement of harboring al Qaeda operatives and has warned that Ethiopia as well as Kenya could be targets of extremist elements from Somalia.
The Islamists claim broad popular support and say their main aim is to restore order to Somalia after years of warlord rule and anarchy.
An editorial in the Washington Post on Wednesday warned that parts of Somalia controlled by the Islamists were beginning to look like
Afghanistan under the Taliban before the September 11 attacks.
The Post said the Bush administration probably would have to prepare for much more active U.S. engagement "in what is emerging as a hot new front in the war on terrorism."
Washington has struggled to find a coherent approach to Somalia and remains haunted by the 1993 "Black Hawk Down" incident in which 18 U.S. soldiers and hundreds of Somalis were killed in a mission to pacify the country.
More recently, a covert counter-terrorism initiative in which the United States gave support to secular warlords fighting Islamists in Mogadishu backfired earlier this year. Support for the Islamists increased after the U.S. backing of the warlords became public.

No kidding. Somalia doesn't exactly exude poster child qualities.
