2 minutes? That's not far. That's less than a mile, I'd imagine. More houses, a cemetary, maybe the elementary school. Maybe you could make it to the high school in 2 minutes, but it would be close.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

As you say, 2 minutes walk is not far. Most walkers will cover a mile in 15-20 minutes, which makes me think that some people are exaggerating a little on this thread - hence my earlier spoof.

There can be little doubt that this is an honest answer though.

In fact, I was exaggerating… I take my chronometer and did some measurements today. The video store isn’t within the two minutes walk. Make it a 4 min walk. And just two restaurants are in that boundary… Let me see… Oh, I need three minutes to reach Copacabana, and Ipanema Beach is exactly on the limit of the two minutes walk range.

You got me-- I could only get to the softball field and TWO of the soccer fields wihin two minutes. To get to the other 3 soccer fields I would have to cross one of the outside ones and I would have insufficient time to do that in two minutes

But I coukld easily get to the forest or either of the meadows

Isn't walking speed roughly (very roughly) 3-4 miles per hour? 4mph = 15 minutes for a mile.

So 2 minutes would be a bit more than 1/10 of a mile. That rules out both schools, leaving only houses and the cemetary.

Gimme 4 minutes and I could probably get to the schools.

The nearest business is a roughly 10 minute walk (greenhouse/garden center). The nearest business I go to much is Stop & Shop (grocery store), which is more like 15-20 minutes. There are hills involved.

                          Good God, I hope so.

At a brisk walk 2 minutes is about 200m

Nope. I used google maps to plot out a rough circle 200 meters in radius.

Hey, cut me some slack. I was still waking up. Hell, I'm still waking up now. Four day weekends rock, but the first day back is rough

I was thinking about a walking speed of 4mph and my confuzzled brain concluded (w/o really thinking about it, obviously) that this meant 1 mile in 4 minutes.

                                It's time for some Necrothreadia!!

Apologies for this. I just found a scrap of paper with some notes I scribbed six months ago but never got round to posting.

I went out and measured two minutes brisk walk and wrote down the business within range. There were more than I had expected.
