Luckily, no major political figure is advocating this.

    • Maybe we should build a new capital near historic Ur. That would remove the fighting from the capital.

      • "Last month, just prior to U.S. midterm elections, WND conducted a series of exclusive interviews in which prominent Middle East terrorist leaders said they hoped Americans would sweep the Democrats into power because of the party's position on withdrawing from Iraq – a move, the terrorists explained, that would ensure victory for the worldwide Islamic resistance.

The terrorists told WND an electoral win for the Democrats would prove to them Americans are "tired." They rejected statements from some prominent Democrats in the U.S. that a withdrawal from Iraq would end the insurgency, explaining an evacuation would prove resistance works and would compel jihadists to continue fighting until America is destroyed.

They said a withdrawal would also embolden their own terror groups to enhance "resistance" against Israel."

        • Terrorist leaders must stop getting their information on Democratic positions from Fox News.

Well, leaving aside why we should care about terrorists' interpretations of our democracy -- he's right. Americans are tired of teh war, and that's exactly why they voted the GOP out of power.

Now the question is: does the government of the US have a greater obligation to the people of the US or to the Iraqis?

            • Rufus, the point of the story is that the Dems statements that a US withdrawal would somehow end the resistance an stop the terrorists from attacking the US is just so much bull. Following the Dem formula will only result in a radical government in Iraq and further attacks the US, its allies and Israel. (Until we are gone, that is, or convert).

              • Even an immediate pullout wouldn't necessarily lead to a radical terrorist government in Iraq.

What it would probably lead to is a Iraqi.Govt - Shia.Militia - Sunni.Baathist- Kurdish.nationalist - al Qaeda.terrorist all-out civil war, with outside intervention from the Iranians, Turks and Syrians.

                • Z, agreed. I think, though, that we eventually will see a repeat of Vietnam '75, with the choppers on the embassy roof rescuing loyalists who will be killed when the Sunni's and al Qa'ida types arrive.

Not the Sunnis. More likely, the Shia militias and maybe their Iranian allies.

And not al Qaeda. Assuming the U.S. withdraw is precipitous....the next set of outsiders to come into the Iraqis' crosshairs will probably be the al Qaeda "foreign fighters."

Can you please quote a Dem who has said this?

A Republican president? After the disasters of Bush's two terms in office?

I think Americans are ready for another Democratic president -- but we have to wait until Nov. 2008.
