They weren't shot digitally, they were shot in film.

A good HD scan of film is no different than filming with HD cameras.

Thanks for the tip on Alexander, I keep meaning to watch it, so now I can avoid it.

The only decent scene in troy is the Duel at the beginning.

Surely this cannot be true. For one, film is 24 frames per second. HD is 60, not so?

They're shot in analog. Movies shot in digital (like Star Wars I-III, I think) are shot in a resolution way higher than 1920x1080.

All these movies need to be shown on movie screens. That necessitates more than enough resolution for HD conversions.

I know they were shot on film, but I thought film wasn't high def. Which is a bit silly, now that I think about it.

Broadcast (TV) HD is 30 or 60.

HD DVD/Bluray HD can be 24, 30, or 60 fps.

Players supporting 1080p24 output exactly 24fps to the TV in 1920x1080, just like the movies.

Otherwise they use a technique called 3:2 pulldown to duplicate frames to achieve nearly the same effect.

Yeah - though in hindsight I wonder if that was done mainly to look cool in the trailer, sincer overall the other visuals lacked similar coolness. Many scenes appeared rather old-fashioned (camera, editing)

But, Asher, if you actually look at the 3:2 conversion algorithms, they will introduce artifacts and blurring. There is a noticeable difference between filming in HD and filming at 24fps and scanning it.

So get a TV and player that supports 1080p24?

I don't know what you're whining about, to be honest.

3:2 pulldown "artifacts" when dealing with a progressive source (HD DVD/Bluray) and display (HDTV) are virtually impossible to notice.

What was the source of this rip? HDNet? HBO-HD?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt.
