PS3 and Xbox 360 both have disk drives -- the core 360 actually doesn't come with one.

That being said, XBL is the king of downloaded content and PSOnline and WiiOnline are, in short, "pathetic or MIA".

The Wii comes with 512MB of flash memory onboard for downloadable games. It also has an SD slot which presumably you could use for more storage, but I've no idea if that's been tested.

In a press release this morning, Nintendo issued a correction to a statement made the day before, asking readers to disregard just one sentence. That sentence, however, may have been the critical one: a promise that one million Wii game consoles would be available in the US before the end of this year.

Nintendo retracted their promise to have 1 million Wiis in the US by the end of the year.

The average software attach rate for the Wii was 2, compared to 3 for the 360 last year, and 5 for the 360 this year.

Based on the latest data released this afternoon by industry analysis firm NPD Group, an estimate of one million units produced might not have been inconceivable. Just since its launch three weeks ago, the Wii sold 476,000 units in the US alone. Worldwide data has yet to be tabulated, though when the final numbers are in, the company may very well have built more than one million units before the end of 2006. But whether one million units remain available after the holiday sales rush, may have been a tall order.

So it seems that there will be a million units, they just won't be available AFTER Christmas, because of demand?

That's perhaps the stupidest way you could interpret it, and even more stupid if that is what Nintendo meant...

What's clearly meant is 1 million "available" to retailers by the end of 2006 is not not promised. 476,000 have already been sold by retailers.

Seems to me that the Wii is the hot console. Kudos to Nintendo for their continued imaginative R&D wrt the wiimote. Gates is probably gnashing his teeth. I note with some humour though, that there are already reports of players losing control of it as they hack and slash (I imagine) and throwing it into other objects.

Was at EB Games today: they had kiosks for the 360, PS3, and Wii.

I got to play Wii for a bit, they had bowling up on the screen. Not nearly as fun as I'd heard people say it is, particularly when you figure out the best and most accurate way to control it is with small, subtle movements and not real-life like bowling movements.

The thing that I found interesting is I could walk right up to the PS3 and Wii kiosks -- PS3 playing Motorstorm and Wii playing Bowling, but the Xbox 360 kiosk had s crowd of people watching some two kids play Gears of War.

Motorstorm looks like crap, especially right next to Gears of War...

What is so innovative about the Wii remote. Games have been out for ages that come with little golf clubs, or baseball games that comes with a bat, etc...... Most of those games sucked too. Is there something I'm missing about the Wii remote, or did it just improve on the technology that has been out for a couple years and actually make it as fun as regular games?

Here's some sales info for November on the three consoles. Although Microsoft sold the most systems, they had the entire month to do it, whereas the PS3 and the Wii launched at the end of the month.

Nintendo Co. Ltd. sold 476,000 units of its new Wii video game console in the United States in November, more than twice the number of PlayStation 3s sold by rival Sony Corp., as the two consoles debuted mid-month, research group NPD said Friday.

                    Sony's PS3 sales came in at 197,000.

Microsoft Corp. sold 511,000 units of its Xbox 360 in November, according to NPD

                    • More sales from November in the US:

The worst selling Playstation 3 title, NBA Live 07, was sold just 130 times to members of the United States public, making it the 1234th best selling console title in November.

The worst selling Nintendo Wii title, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent, was sold just 42 times to members of the United States public, making it the 1673rd best selling console title in November.

                        • But that one's not surprising, seeing as how soccer is not popular here...

Splinter Cell and NBA are most certainly very popular franchises.
