There's an immense distrust between Syria and Israel, and it's obvious that any Israeli journalist will ask trap-questions to the diplomat. And the diplomat is likely to say a blunder, since this pseudo "peace initiative" isn't adressed to Israel, but at the west. Syria wants to look as a good boy, in the possible context of thawing relationships between the west and Syria/Iran.
Any blunder would show that Syria doesn't really intend to make significant compromises with Israel. Just like Israel isn't ready to make any compromise with Syria either.
