Well, my boss just left for taiwan from montreal in a direct flight...that's what he told me this morning, thus the reason of my thread. Or I just might be completly out of it and heard something completly different

Air canada are a bit weird - they claim that there are 0 stops on that route, but if you try to book a ticket, it says there are a stop in vancouver. Hope your boss doesn't leave the plane there
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

When you get to Vancouver they make you stand up and walk around in the plane...
        What?

Hey! It takes about 13 hours to get from L.A. to Taiwan...and I'm sure it doesn't take 8 hours to get from Montreal to L.A.

It sounds like they're taking you the long way round.

now if you keep on traveling past the international date line once a day...it stays the same

so time travel is possible....just expensive
anti steam and proud of it

My question is, instead of flying the same direction the earth is spinning, why not fly the other way? Logicaly, it should take a lot less time right?

              Spec.
When you jump, does it matter much which direction you jump?
Do you jump much farther if you jump against the direction of the Earth's spin?
Logically you should be able to jump a few hundred yards right because the Earth spins so fast.

On a personal note, i'm from Abitibi - north of Montreal - and i can tell you that the population in our region doesn't match with the numbers of jets we see flying overhead - and that's only when the weather conditions make it possible for us to see them.
                That's not exactly true...
There ARE prevailing wind patters that may somehow make a slightly longer route cheaper but not to the extent that Spec seems to believe I think.

Distance between taiwan and montreal is 7848 miles...they even have the graph. Why not go directly, or why does it take so much time?

                  Spec.

1.How do you know that's not a direct path?
I thought it was common knowledge that on most map projections, shortest path on the Earth's surface do not appear as straight line on the map?
For all you know, that's a direct path.

                  2. There are wind patterns which are very important.
For example, flying from Mtl to Europe is about one hour shorter than back, just because of that.

3.Final point, unless you can find us some sort of source for your 21 hour direct flight YUL-TSA, I'm going to assume you heard wrong.
