So it's not the thug role you oppose as such, just pure thugs? You need to be a thug/goal scorer, or thug/defense, or something like that. Today's NHL is full of versatile, gentleman thugs who fight for "honour" (note the U) and are sure to slap each other in the face with their gloves after they take them off. Something like that?

Seems to me that you just object to more specialized athletes. Like a hypothetical baseball fan who keeps complaining that designated hitters are BS (note to MLB fans: I know nothing about baseball, or even if DH's are still used).

NHL is the premiere league, the others don't allow it because they're kiddie leagues.

Yeah... it might be considered the premier league because it pays the most and therefore gets the best players. The other don't allow it because fighting is stupid and not a part of the game.

They're farm leagues. They don't want their players getting damaged in any way before the big leagues.

It doesn't require fighting. The vast majority of players do NOT fight. There's typically one or two guys on the team who will fight, and they do the fighting for the team.

My age has a lot to do with it... I've been going to hockey games long before you were born... I will admit I haven't been to a Chicago game in a few years. But that has to do with Wirtz the owner. I've been to a few games in Detroit.

Nobody said in here we watch the fights for entertainment -- just that it's a strategy as part of the game.
