Ah, I feel a little better now.

Roughly how many candidates did you vote for, and how many could you have voted for? We don't have nearly as many elected seats to vote for here; Parliament, regional, municipal and European Parliament, one seat for each, and that's it. That's four, 5 if you include the local church council, provided you're a church member.

General referendums are rare as well, and usually non-binding, just advisory to the lawmakers.

      Hmm... let me see...

      Governor: Dem
      Senate: Dem
      House: Rep
      Sec of State: Rep
      State Treasurer: Rep
      Sheriff: Rep
      State Legislator: Rep
      State Senate: Rep
Add amenment to State constution defining Marriage as one man and one woman: No
Allow death penalty in cases of murder where the conviction is supported by DNA evidence: Yes
Local referrendum for $70 million for school renovations: Yes.

There were about 3 or 4 others that only had one person running. I don't vote in those.

That's quite a package, and much more direct than what we have here. Plus our elections are held only every 4 years for local, regional and Parliament (Parliament can be called early), 5 years for the EU Parliament.

So compared to that, the U.S. is also the land of plenty of voting.

Your death penalty referendum has stirred a lot of commentary on some of the sites I visit. From what I've gathered, it should be in the bag, comfortably.

Of the 3 referendums, thats the one I care least about. Its so restrictive that I would bet there would only be about 2-5 cases a year AT THE MOST that would even be eligiable. And of those I would bet that only 1-2 would get it.

The other two are FAR more important to me.

The local one about the schools is because my girls will someday be going to the schools they are fixing (they are so overcrowed that High School gym is being held in the hallways...).

The other one for two reasons.
                1) No amenment is needed. It is already required to be one of each sex to even receive a marriage application, much less get it approved.
                2) I happen to be a STRONG believer in equal rights. If a guy and a girl want to get hitched and be eligable for certian benefits, why should we restrict it to ONLY a guy and a girl?

I happen to know a gay couple. They actually went through with having a wedding and the whole deal. Their marriage will last. Actually, the biggest threat to their marriage right now is discrimitory crap like this amenment. All they really want to do right now is to have a child. But they can't afford it right now because one is covered under her insurance (she's a co-worker of mine), but her wife isn't because the law refuses to recignize their marriage. Its a load of **** and all it does is piss me off. ****ers.

I think I could probably vote in MD, but that it would be illegal for me to do so. So I am currently thinking I won't.. (I currently reside in VA, I registered to vote in MD a few years ago, I haven't changed my registration).

I would think that most of the Liberals here would actually agree with that particular vote. Best man for the job, obviously!

I'm going to vote after work. I will vote Democrat for Senate. I don't think my House district is up for election. I will likely vote Dem for governor, but frankly I'm not 100% on that yet. Jodi Rell hasn't done anything in particular to piss me off, at least that I know of ( ). As for the others, I'll probably mix 'n match a bit, leaning Dem because I'm currently very angry with the Republicans and have only a very limited ability to punish them. Any 3rd party types that aren't completely insane (libertarians, greens - basically just don't be a nazi and I'll throw ya a bone) outside of the Senate and Governor races will get my vote. If there is a race with both Lib and Green... probably Lib, 'cause CT is fairly lefty in general.

Not that all of that matters much, but one tries.

edit: Rell's gonna win anyway. She's up ~20pts in the polls. I don't take polls as gospel, but a 20 point gap is unlikely to be noise.
