Actually, Eureka, CA is reality TV, at its most bizzare, and at least 1 NBC producer agrees with me. http://www.northcoastjournal.com/051001/cover0510.html ]Jim Carrey filmed a movie 15 miles South[/url], about 3 years ago, and 1 1/2 years ago, NBC's 3 wishes program wanted to come and present a gift on behalf of a "sHero". Three women were nominated, one declined because she was feeding people and was being harrased by the EPD on behalf of the city council, another was involved in a transitional housing program that has become quite controversial, and has failed to find people housing, and a third, who seems to be doing good work, declined for reasons unknown to me. I talked to an NBC producer who said he was very interested in shows from here. Woody Harrelson, from "Cheers" has been here several times for Hempfest, so Hollywood knows some of the craziness that goes on here.

I thought Eureka was my birthtown when I last visited. What a dump. It reminded me of Bremerton up here in Washington.
Anyways, driving through eureka, I was wondering what it was like, it seemed so dumpy... then I saw a large building! What is it? headquarters for a warehouse company, perhaps a lumber mill, a toy factory?
Nope, it was the prison.
Yuck... went to the Lost Coast Brewery... terrible food. Terrible, terrible food. Barbeque pork tasted ,ike vomit... glad my GF got it, and not me... even though she ended up vomiting that night.
And don't get me started on Arcata!
Later, I found out I was actually born in Fortuna.

The jail is 2 blocks long and 5 stories. Almost every other bulding is house sized, and none more than 2 stories. The "industries" in Humoldlt are: pot, the University, prison, and "mental health services". Real estate was increasing in value in Arcata, 6 miles north, til about 2 years ago, Arcata was listed in The Wall Street Journal and High Times as the 100 best places to live, but market value is falling, and there are plenty of examples of mismanagement. If you want to decide if the jail is ugly for yourself, this picture is a reasonable facimile:

Always place the jails in industrial zones - NEVER in residential or commercial. With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Cops Kill a 4th time in 10 months
Before last March, it was only about every 4 years. Large parts of the community are scared of the cops. Since March, we've asked for a civilian review board. I started being targeted as a result of going to city council meetings.
There is a public policy failure here. I've had to console the woman here who's been feeding the poor for 20 years. The cops were pulling her over, threateneing her so badly in 2005, she was crying in my arms. Police are permentently stationed near the free food kitchen to pull people over. The 2 times it happened to me were the only time I had a woman riding with me. The cops tried to turn a fixit ticket into a resisting arrest charge by screaming "Are you mad?" to me and her, and to a perfect stranger screaming, "Is he mad?" "Is she mad?" a yes at any time would have been probable cause for detention, so they'd bully my passenger into sex, which they are notorious for. This has created a us/them mentality.
The "Food bank" lets food sit around for months until they put it in the freezer. The organ that detriorates fastest with malnutrition is the higher areas of the brain. Genrification has caused people on disabilty unable to eat nutrious foods all month without help, what get's called rehab here, "clean and sober houses" have no oversight, and have plenty of drugs available.
Previous policies in Sacramento have given subsidies for "law enforcement" that exceed county's costs, making it a potential profit center in corrupt counties. There is a new law to change that, so this is likely to change.

Yeah, sadly a lot of the small inland towns in Northern California are like that. In fact a lot of towns period in Northern California are like that. I recall having to do geology work in Willets,CA ... It was amazing how many people were growing pot in their backyards as well. Just a sad little town filled with sad, pathetic people.
