Merkel actually condemened the cancellation of that Opera. The media didn't make any fuss until the cancellation.

Skull and penis in the same picture = "warcrime"?

      uhhh...

This is part of a pattern.

The more westerners make a fuss about their own so-called-atrocities against Islam (when invariably they aren't), and demand special sensitivity-training for troops, the more it encourages the Islamists to kick and scream.
      Yes
German chancellor Angela Merkel expressed disgust at the photos and said there would be full investigation.
      Great job, Merkel!

in some cultures, cough, cough, theres a certain respect for human remains. I dont know how much of one there is in Islam, or in the local cultures of afghanistan. But given that there are folks there who are generally sensitive about being dissed, and we're all of us trying win hearts and minds, this is NOT A GOOD THING.

That said, I certainly acknowledge that forces of my own country have done far worse things wrt hearts and minds. This is not THAT serious. But Merkel's ordering an investigation is certainly warranted. Would that leaders in my own country were all as sensitive as that to issues like this.

Id be surprised if any other mainstream German leaders would have reacted any differently than Chanc. Merkel.

Perhaps we just need a higher percentage of women in the Bundeswehr

They will take care that the boys don´t show any indecent behavior

In gravel pits, especially in regions with a history of battles in the near past, you find the strangest things in the sands. If you would make some effort to read the rest of the thread instead of just trolling, you'd see that I had a similar incident in northern Germany, where I lived in the 80s. In the last days of WW2, the Volkssturm tried to hold back the advancing Soviet tanks there. Now, I found parts of the skeleton of a Volkssturm man, and my son found his weapon.

Afghanistan has no less "history of recent battles", and I imagine there are interesting things to find for the locals too. Not bones, but weapons, may be tools or even things of value to sell. The German soldiers were probably "just there". I doubt they were actively digging for anything.

BERLIN A leading German opera house has canceled performances of a Mozart opera because of security fears stirred by a scene that depicts the severed head of the Prophet Muhammad, prompting a storm of protest here about the renunciation of artistic freedom

Actually it was the Opera Director, not the police who cancelled it, but the police applauded.

The Deutsche Oper's director, Kirsten Harms, said she regretted the decision but felt she had no choice because she was "responsible for all the people on the stage, behind the stage and in front of the stage."

While the police said they did not pressure the Deutsche Oper to cancel the production, they supported the decision.

Yeah, the opera that banned itself. Pretty stupid form of self-censorship that made the headlines here some time ago.

I think nobody said seriously so far it's a warcrime, except for me in the title. A bit of apolytonizing can't be that bad
