Hoover was an engineer by training, making him only the second person with a scientific background to become president (Jefferson was the first).

Carter was a worthless president that found his calling after leaving office.

Saddam Hussein.........though I am not sure it was long enough ago to call it "history"

A middle east dictator who was put in power with the help of the Americans who were in fear of Russia support Iran and wanting a leader they could control in Iraq.

Why he may have been responsible for acts which many of us would find deplorable, he is no worse then many of his counterparts in the middle east (and others). Once he was no longer useful to the U.S. he became public enemy #1 whereas in reality he should have been 1 of many.

Shouldn't this be in the history forum?

And then there's the extremally silly way he managed trying to get American soldiers out of Korea. He didn't even bother to try negotiating with either of the Korean governments before annoucing he was doing that and managed to get the military and virtually his entire administration united against him...

Also Ike generally followed a relatively sane foreign policy, for example bringing the Korean war to a close and avoiding escallating the U2 thingie into a major crisis.

Indeed. I recall a story that Carter's chief of staff had his first meeting with the Congressional leaders (Dems ran both houses at the time) in Carter's THIRD year of his administration. That doesn't directly implicate Carter, but shows how unprepared for 'prime time' his admin was.

When Jimmy went on national television and said he had consulted with daughter Amy (she was like 13 or something) on what was the biggest fear Americans faced, I knew it was all over.

The man has done wonders afterwards though.
                                IMO, better than any ex-prez.
