A middle east dictator who was put in power with the help of the Americans who were in fear of Russia support Iran and wanting a leader they could control in Iraq.
Why he may have been responsible for acts which many of us would find deplorable, he is no worse then many of his counterparts in the middle east (and others). Once he was no longer useful to the U.S. he became public enemy #1 whereas in reality he should have been 1 of many.

Ike dug deep into the treasury and almost single handiedly created the Interstate Freeway system. He got the idea after seeing the German autobahn after Germany surrendered. Indeed. I recall a story that Carter's chief of staff had his first meeting with the Congressional leaders (Dems ran both houses at the time) in Carter's THIRD year of his administration.
