This looks like a power play by Lieberman basically he gets to now demand whatever chairmanship he wants or he threatens to switch sides and end Democratic control of the Senate.

Can you blame him?

I'd love to see Lieberman run in 08. Maybe he could run as an Independent after he loses the primary. That would be funny, to see if he could steal enough votes from the real Democrat to let the Repubs keep the White House.

Nah, probably not, but still ... would be funny

Depending on the Repub. candidate, anyway.

Speaking of '08... Gore is supposedly keen on running but wants to play coy until the last minute so as to limit the amount of time people have to take shots at him. Plus it would make it seem like he really didn't want to run but was brought out by overwelming public demand. Or at least that's the theory.

Going by this theory Gore's movie and book would just be classic ways to raise his profile and get his name back in circulation prior to the big '08 rerun. Clinton didn't declare until December of 1991 so if Gore follows the same model we can expect him to declare officially around December 2007. That gives us more then a year of "Will he or won't he run?" stories in the media; I'm sure that's intentional as it will be a lot of free publicity.

Lieberman won't go any where. He just wants Reid to know he wants a chairmanship or else. Reid isn't stupid so Lieberman gets his chairmanship which, according to senority, he would have been up for one anyway. The only difference is Lieberman now gets to pick exactly which one he gets instead of being made chair of the subcommittee for toilet design or some other such place.
