What I don't like (though this is something more a problem in my city- but perhaps other cities as well) is these huge mega corporations gaining such control over my city. Most of the hotels are owned by 2 companies now. You can't say it violates anti-trust laws as there are 2 companies controlling everything, not one. but I still think there is some collusion going on to keep employee pays and benefits down.

Things were actually much better when the mob ran our town.

JM got it in one. The average people are treading water, the poor are getting poorer, while the rich are getting huge windfalls due to disproportionate tax breaks. Then tie in how most of the manufacturing jobs just are competitive without protectionism and you can see how an old line manufacturing heavy state like Ohio would be hurting.

My family may be making more than it was previously. Unfortunately, everything costs far more than it did previously, meaning that my purchasing power has gone down.
Health costs, in particular, are bad.

No you just have to have a basic understanding of math. Let's make it simple. Low income person X sees his wages go down 2%, middle income guy Y sees his income stagnate, while rich guy Z sees his go up 14%. Wow, we just had 4% increases in wages for the YEAR!!!! I have of course weighted all groups equally which isn't true but is unnecisary to illistrate my point.

Statistics lie and liars use statistics. People's realities are very different which was the whole point of John Kerry's Two America's speech. We have a wealthy few who are getting everything and a vast majority who are getting **** on. That's just not a good way to run a country.

yep, I agree. Or growth statistics are impressive, but I only need to look at the hourly wages for people in my profession and other professions in the casino industry. It has remained stagnant. Or they reclassify higher paying jobs so they can pay people less (they did this to my mom, they made her do the job of a higher paying person used to do, but would not raise her hourly wages).

The wages in my city are stagnant (with the exception of some unions).

Do you actually have any evidence for this, or is just more truthiness?

I too am making more then last year. A good deal more because I did a bit of job hoping but I'm an educated college graduate which most Americans are not. What's worse is fewer people are actually graduating from college now then under Clinton because the government (Fed and state) keeps cutting the amount they subsidize education and have slashed student aid. Cutting education is a HORRIBLE long term policy since all the future value added jobs are going to require a well educated work force. Republicans are just nose diving our country into the ground.

                  I didn't say that. I myself got a 2.5% raise.

What I said was the economic benefits were concentratrated in the top 1%. For example, what happened to my remaining 1.5%?? Was it part of some CEO's multi-million-dollar bonus package that he got even though his corporation lost money this year? When was the last time the minimum wage was raised.

Who cares when the last time the minimum wage was raised? You'd be much better off looking at whether real wages for workers in the lowest income brackets have been increasing...

Those making minimum wages ARE in the lowest income bracket.

Oerdin, I'd honestly like to know: is there some website you visit daily that tells you today's party line so you can repost it word-for-word above an article that may or may not support your claims?

They don't make up the entirety of those in the lowest income bracket. They might not even make up most of it.
