Four years ago I was broke and in college, now I'm rich and in college, so overall I'd say I'm better off.

          Are we representative

is the experience here really that different from the experience of US residents overall?

Financially? Yeah, sure. My wife and I continue to get good raises and bonuses.

Emotionally? Yeah. Got married. That seems to be going well. Friends & family largely doing well. My wife's job is currently more stressful than I think it's worth, but she's working on switching jobs so hopefully that will improve.

Other - generally very angry and disappointed in my government, and prospects for the future (I loathe the Republicans now more than I can adequately express, but have little confidence in the Dems).

Of middle and upper middle class yes this is probably indicative.

I doubt we have an adequate sampling of poverty level (save those who are students filing separately).

Since older people make more money than young people even in a completely stagnant economy most people will do better as time progresses.

I was doing pitifull 4 years ago, and it's actually worse now, but at least I keep getting better looking.

Generally people will do better in four years unless there is a very bad recession (what Boshko said). In my case I hope to do better 4 years from now, regardless of the next persident.

Thanx pchang. I'm happy though. A lot of people here probably think that I'm miserable, always pissed off because someone has more money than I do, but I'm not. I really don't get upset about it much. I get up in the morning and decide to have a great day regardless of how much money I have. As Lincoln said, "We are generally as happy as we decide to be."
