“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”

          Hmmm...
I have more money in the bank because I make good money and can live cheaper than a cockroach.
My health is being battered by working too many hours with no relief in sight.
I have less of a chance of buying a house because prices have continually climbed out of my ability to reach them.
I'm four years closer to retirement.
I'm now living under a govenor who vetos any bills that will help common working folk, including one which would have provided universal health coverage.
I've caused enough havoc via the union that I'd have thought I'd have been fired by now, but I haven't been.
The prestige of my country has been devistated internationally by its cowboy invasion of Iraq, by its badgering of its reluctant allies, and by its use of "coerced interrogations."

All in all, I'd say I'm slightly worse off...but it's a close call.

No. Rising gas costs, skyrocketing healthcare costs, and the effect that these two things often have on the price of everything else (food, etc) makes me worse off.

It isn't as if Utah is an area devoid of any hope or happiness. It does have some good aspects to it

US Presidents: Are you better off now than you were 4 years ago?

Gerald Ford: -Well, frankly, no. I have not sought this situation of being 93 years old.

Jimmy Carter: -Thanks for asking. You see, it's like this. I'd feel much better if I'd had a proper ship named after me.

George H.W. Bush: -Well we get by, don't we Barbara? Yeah. Read my lips: We're doin' ok!

Bill Clinton: -Sorry, I gotta refuse to answer that question on the grounds of possible self-incrimination. Hey! Get a load of that waitress over there!

George W. Bush: -Um, sure. Yeah. Next question, please, and then we'll wrap this thing up.
