First thing you do is shut off Wourd's spelling checker.

Then you write as if you were in Loundon. You'll be fine.

                    • The Canadians have an excuse for the French spellings (have to appease the rulers of their country and all). What's the English excuse, though? Aren't you lot supposed to hate the French?

The English and it seems also the Canadians are intelligent enough to be able to handle the original spellings. They didn't have to adopt a revised spelling model to make it easier for their stupid citizens to understand.

The "expiring in 15 years" reference is cute, and shows you've clicked beyond just the first link from a Google search. The context is as follows: When the republic was constituted in 1950, English was made the pricipal official language. After 1965, Hindi was to become the principal official language, with English designated a "subsidiary official language."
Article 343: "The official language of the Union shall be Hindi in the Devangari script."

                                - enough said. It's right there in black and white.

"Notwithstandinganything in this article the Parliament may provide for the use after the said period of fifeteen of -
                                (a) the English language, or....................."

The English language may be used by the government if duly legislated, but it is still not the official language.
