Gauging the Red's reaction on the mention of The General I think another Pershing would foot the bill. Little Pancho is a fool.

"Despite rampant corruption, regular vote stealing, and authoritarian tendencies, Mexico's multi-party system makes U.S. "democracy" with its two-headed single party rule, look a lot more like Idi Amin's Uganda than what the Boston tea party had in mind for the future citizens of the United States of America."
That is one of the most poorly worded sentences I have ever had the displeasure to read.

Well Ok maybe Clinton.
Dude...even "Teh Regan" who was the most popular modern Repub. Pres, was a "minority president" if you count the entire US (voting) population.

And still you misunderstand what happened in the Mexican election.

That would be the whole of the population in question, so yeah...even if they didn't vote in that election, you sorta have to count them, and the point stands. We haven't had a truly majority president in my lifetime.
And I understand very well what happened in Mexico, btw...

Basically because Americans are lazy and complacent and don't vote. CT is usually one of the top states for turnout and we're around 2/3. That's terrible.
As for the Mexican thing... the only Mexican I know, Master Zen, definitely things the election was dirty. Of course, it's Mexico. International observers certified the election as clean, IIRC, but of course they don't know everything. It's really hard to know.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

The original post (by Dino) made mention of the Mexican President only representing at best 1/3 of the country.
Note here that this is NOT the same as 1/3 of the registered voters who voted in the current election, but the country as a whole, which would include the non-voters too.
I didn't set the parameter...only pointed out that what's true in Mexico is also true here.
And it's not inane in the least...in fact, it speaks to an *enormous* political opportunity...a truly vast untapped electoral potential to be exploited.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

In any case, Nixon had the majority of the living voters.“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”
